Through a series of cultural and business events organised to enlighten international visitors on the UK’s contributions to the Milan Expo, the UK’s National Day embodied the Expo theme of ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’.
As part of the celebrations, ercol’s Chairman, Edward Tadros, met the Prime Minister, David Cameron, alongside the Italian Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, Mark Braund of BDP, Andrew Summers CMG, and chef Anton Mosimann.
We were delighted to join a selection of British brands chosen to exhibit their products within the UK Pavilion at the Milan Expo 2015 until 31 October.
The Milan Expo’s theme puts the focus on the challenge of feeding the planet. Working closely with Wolfgang Buttress, ercol was asked to furnish the VIP suite in the Pavilion. We chose two of our most iconic pieces – the Studio Couch and the Windsor Easy Chair in a white painted finish and upholstered in a bee-patterned fabric designed by long-time fabric collaborator, Timorous Beasties. Other well-known ercol pieces have also been placed in the VIP Suite including the Plank Table in a white painted finish with matching white Butterfly Chairs, and the Loveseat in beech and walnut.
We has also exhibited furniture from some of our contemporary collections, including the Treviso desk in oak designed by Matthew Hilton, the Svelto Stacking Stools in oak, and from one of the most recent collections, Romana.
