Early this June saw the end of year show for graduating designers and artists from our local Buckinghamshire New University. At the recent Clerkenwell Design Week, there was one show with a difference – Making Designers, the brainchild of John Miller, brought together the school works of many of today’s prominent designers. The show sought to inspire a new generation of designers and highlight the benefits of hands-on making as part of the development of rounded, practical design skills. It also sought to highlight the importance of CDT and school workshops within the education programme at a time of change to the school curriculum.
This week sees ercol exhibiting at Design District in the Netherlands. Housed in an old munitions facility just outside of Amsterdam, weapons were made and tested secretly here until as recently as 2003. Now it provides a characterful exhibition space.
