The Tokyo Gift Fair, Japan’s answer to Maison et Objet, takes place twice yearly and has 200,000 visitors and 2,500 exhibitors. It takes place in the wonderfully named “Big Sight” exhibition centre. The British Embassy’s stand featured ercol chairs, along with works by a number of British artists.

ercol’s Chairman, Edward Tadros, spent two days at the Fair and is pictured along with Yoshi Sakuju (standing) the MD of ercol’s distributor in Japan, Daniel, and with Akiko Yanagisawa, Senior Trade Adviser for UKTI at the British Embassy in Tokyo.  Our thanks to the Embassy for their help and support.

Featured on the stand, amongst others, were our new bar stool – first shown at Tent London and then at Interiors 2012 this January, the stool was originally made by our jig shop for ercol designers to sit at when working at their drawing boards, in the days before design was done on computers.  Following an enthusiastic response at the shows the bar stool is to go into production and will be available in the summer.  Also shown is a vertical stack of ercol stacking chairs in a variety of painted finishes.  The stacking chair is part of our Originals collection – a re-issue of a small collection of our favourite pieces from our back catalogue.
