Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA) has recently upgraded its operational base at RAF Benson in Oxfordshire in preparation for major advancements to the service this year. As well as refurbishment work additional portakabins were installed to provide enhanced training facilities, a purpose built visitors’ centre and upgraded accommodation and work-space for the crew.

Chairs-2Ercol were delighted to support such a worthy local cause and have donated 4 leather armchairs for the new domestic area, a space that enables the air crew to take much needed comfort breaks during long and demanding shifts on the air ambulance. The highly skilled team of doctors and paramedics are on call 365 days a year and to date have responded to 16,000 emergency trauma and medical callouts across Berks, Oxon and Bucks. The crew bring the expertise of the a&e department to the roadside to treat patients at the scene, fast, delivering advanced, life-saving care.

The new operational base was officially opened on Monday 11 May by HRH The Countess of Wessex. The day was a fantastic opportunity for members of staff, crew, volunteers, former patients and supporters to come together to celebrate the Charity’s 15th anniversary as well as meet The Countess of Wessex as she undertook a tour of the new base.

Sarah Williamson, Head of Fundraising and Communications said: “Unfortunately we didn’t get a snap of The Countess in the brand new chairs, but we can assure they have been well used by the crew since they arrived – and they are one happy bunch as the pictures show! TVAA is a crucial emergency service that only exists through charitable donations and support. It is with great thanks and appreciation to Ercol for their generous contribution to the new crew room.”
