As you may be aware (see earlier article) we are celebrating our 90th anniversary this year. We’ve lots of new product ranges coming out this year, as we look forward to the next decade of ercol, but we felt we’d also like to mark the occasion with a few special pieces.
Our Originals range embody the heritage of ercol, comprising a number of our favourite pieces from our back catalogue, brought back to life. For our 90th anniversary we are issuing special versions of two of our Originals.
The beautifully curved 0354 nest of tables, often referred to as the “pebble” nest, was designed by ercol’s founder, Lucian Ercolani, in 1956 and has become something of a mid-century design classic. For our celebrations we are making two special versions of it. We’ve given it a playful makeover in an array of colours to create a fun flash of colour for the home. The large table is painted in teal, the medium table in coral and the small table in red ochre.
We are also making a special edition with walnut table tops, instead of the normal elm. The rich dark colour of the walnut provides a striking contrast with the beech legs. The tables are finished in a clear matt lacquer, showcasing the beauty of the timber. Coordinating beautifully with this is our third special….
The butterfly chair was first launched in 1958 and was also designed by our founder, Lucian Ercolani. We are also issuing this in a walnut version as an anniversary special. Here, bent walnut plies replace the usual elm for the seat and back, and, as with the tables, you get an incredible contrast between the walnut and the beech of the legs and frame.

I have just purchased an original Ercol Studio Couch. the frame is in good condition – but I need to replace the cushions and fabric to bring it up to standard.
I am interested to find out more about its design history – particularly with reference to the type of fabric it would have been originally covered with and what the original cushions and webbing would have been made of.
I would like to have the cushions re-made to the original shape/design – can I purchase these from Ercol? I see you have now re-issued this item of furniture and wonder if the size of the item and the cushions are identical to the original?

Yes you can purchase replacement cushions, covers and webs from us. We offer a choice of around 100 fabrics, or, subject to certain constraints, we can make up cushions using your own fabric if you prefer. These are designed to fit the original version of the studio couch (and also the new). Call us 01844 271800 & ask for Customer Services if you have more queries.
