With twenty-four years experience, John is an example of the huge wealth of talent and experience that we are fortunate to have in our staff.  Inspired to become an aprentice at ercol by his brother, John completed a three year City & Guilds Polishing diploma, becoming “Polisher of the Year” in the National Awards at the end of his course.  He has a great love and affinity for working with wood and spent fourteen years working in the polishing shop, continuing to perfect his craft and skill; he talks with great enthusiam about his work there.  Then for the last ten years John has worked in the sewing shop on our upholstery, extending his knowledge of furniture making by learning the intricacies of all aspects of working with fabric, such that he is now our resident upholstery guru.

As Process Manager, as well as managing his team of eight, much of his time is spent working out the details of making new designs.  Working with his team he draws on his and the team’s extensive knowledge of how to handle the huge variations and challenges that every new piece of furniture and even every different fabric brings.  John and his team have a huge knowledge not only of our current designs, but also of our upholstery designs  from the past, which they still make replacement cushions for as part of our reCover service.  This summer has seen John and his team perfecting our new Ravenna range of upholstery, which will be appearing in stockists this autumn.
